Not So Obvious Sugar Culprits

Excess sugar is very harmful to dental health. We often don’t realize that some foods we eat are in fact causing extreme harm to our teeth and gums. Even if you do cut down sugar directly, eating these specific foods can increase sugar intake and affect dental hygiene:

  1. Low-fat yogurt

  2. BBQ Sauce

  3. Ketchup

  4. Fruit juices

  5. Spaghetti sauce

  6. Chocolate milk

  7. Granola bars

  8. Coffee

  9. Iced tea

  10. Protein bars

  11. Vitamin water

  12. Packed soup

  13. Cereal bars

  14. Canned fruits

  15. Smoothies

  16. Breakfast cereal

While some items on this list may surprise you, moderate consumption of these foods are acceptable.

There are dental hygiene habits that can protect your teeth from any potential harm that arises when you consume foods with sugar content. Here are some tips that you must follow after you’ve had a meal:

  1. Brushing after you’ve had a meal where you think there might be deposits is a wise idea.

  2. You can also floss if you feel the need.

  3. Always make sure you are drinking water.

  4. Brush twice a day without fail. Flossing on a daily basis is also a must.

  5. Change your toothbrush at least once in 3 months (or sooner if you get a cold or flu).

  6. Get a full dental check-up regularly.

These tips are bound to keep your teeth healthy and free from any form of dental issues.
