Guards / Bite Appliances

Suffer from grinding teeth? Protect your teeth from grinding, jaw clenching, and sports injuries

There are two common ways in which we harm our teeth: playing sports, and grinding and clenching while we sleep. Sometimes our teeth are injured in an instant, but they can also be damaged so slowly that we don’t realize until it’s serious.

At Dr. Vidya’s modern clinic, we can fit you for custom guards and bite appliances that help to protect your teeth from both types of damage.

  • Grinding/clenching: "Bruxism" is the technical term for when you clench or grind your teeth while your sleep. Bruxism can cause chipped teeth, damaged fillings, painful headaches, and it can even loosen your teeth. Our team can fit you with a custom bite appliance that will protect your teeth from being damaged while you sleep.

  • Sports: Sports often leave your teeth vulnerable — particularly contact sports such as rugby, hockey and football. We can fit athletes with sports guards to protect their teeth from injury during physical activity.

If you play sports or suffer from clenching and teeth grinding, contact Dr. Vidya Varathan & Associates today to discuss creating a custom guard or bite appliance to protect your teeth from harm.

It's important to protect your teeth from injuries, grinding and clenching. We can fit you with a guard to wear during sports, or a bite appliance to prevent damage from nighttime grinding or clenching.

  • Dentures: Dentures can be full (whole arch or whole mouth) or partial (replacing one or several teeth). Contact our office today if you’re interested in dentures.

  • Bridges: A bridge is a dental appliance that replaces one or more natural missing teeth, thereby “bridging” the space between two teeth. Talk to us today if you’re interested in a bridge.

  • Panoramic digital X-rays: We are proud to offer panoramic digital X-rays. The images are instantly available on a computer screen, and enable us to have a better look at your teeth. You’re also exposed to less radiation than with traditional X-rays.

  • Cephalometric X-rays (Ceph X-rays): A cephalometric X-ray (commonly known as a “ceph”) is a diagnostic radiograph used mainly for planning orthodontic treatment. This special X-ray allows us to get an extremely clear, advanced look at your teeth and jawbones, so we can create a custom orthodontic treatment plan.

  • Intraoral cameras: These special cameras give us an up-close and personal look at your teeth and gums. Then we display the photos instantly on our screens while you’re still sitting in the chair.

  • Snoring counseling: Snoring is a mild breathing disorder that can be treated here at our Dentistry. We can even fit you with a dental appliance that could reduce your snoring and improve your overall health.
